Sharing dishes at a steakhouse

Clarify portions and serving arrangements.

Ask what is intended for sharing

Check whether the restaurant offers sharing cuts, platters or individual plates. Ask staff to explain the serving format and stated size. A large menu weight or photograph is not a reliable headcount recommendation on its own.

Agree on the main choices

Collect the group preferences before choosing a shared main. Discuss preparation and ask whether the kitchen can accommodate the plan. If preferences differ substantially, individual orders may make the meal easier to organise.

Coordinate the sides

Check how sides are portioned and which are already included. Choose accompaniments together and confirm sauces or extras separately. Discuss ingredient restrictions with the restaurant before treating a shared dish as suitable for everyone.

Confirm service and payment

Ask whether the restaurant slices or portions a shared main and how it will be served. Repeat the complete order and any supplements before preparation. Agree among guests how shared items will be divided on the bill.
